AXA PPP healthcare and therapy….patients need to be aware.
I have been an osteopath for 17 years and run a busy clinic in London with 6 other osteopaths. We treat a variety of injuries from back and neck pain to sports and pregnancy related problems. We are respected in our area and hold good standing with local GPs and specialist physicians and surgeons for the work that we do.
I have been a member of AXA PPP for more than 12 years and always have had a good working relationship with them. As of this month, they have written to Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists telling them that they need to sign themselves into a new binding contract whereby AXA PPP are only willing to pay £35 per treatment of their patients.
This is the same controlling/bullying technique that Bupa used a few years ago and quiet clearly it has nothing to do with their members (which they try and tell us this is where their interest lies!) and is only a business decision. They want MORE profit. Many clinics rely heavily on the money paid from these insurance companies and for these clinics, they will take a massive reduction in their earnings. Especially those in London, where rent and rates are greater than elsewhere in the country.
Practitioners (Osteopaths, Chiropractors and Physiotherapists) do not charge excessive fees when you look at the considerable amount of training they do. As an osteopath, I trained for 5 years and have also done a significant amount of additional training. We have a long education, so that we are able to diagnose and treat our patients and keep them safe.
At Back to Back, we are unfortunately taking a stand to this and are leaving AXA PPP. This sadly will impact on our patients. We are truly sorry of this. But we have no choice!
I suspect many other practitioners will follow too. The only hope is that if many patients complain to AXA PPP and state their concerns.
Yours in health.
